Who's On April's Ballot: Rob Glazier, District 4 Aldermanic Candidate

4th District candidate

Rob Glazier was appointed as the 4th District alderman after the resignation of Keith Werner amid a recall effort in May 2012. Werner fell out of favor with residents in his district over his "yes" vote on the city's purchase of land to develop a lake park. Already the chairman of the Community Development Authority, Glazier said the decision to step in as the alderman for a district that was in some turmoil was not easy. "I had been concerned about the commitment, especially juggling it with family and scouting," he explained. Glazier is a leader with Pack 19 in Muskego, and also is in a leadership role at the district level for the Boy Scouts. However, using the very tenets of scouting including being trustworthy, helpful, courteous and …

Muskego Heavily Favors Roggensack in Light Primary Turnout

With no local races on the ballot, 15 percent turn out to vote, sending Pat Roggensack and Ed Fallone on to the April general election for the State Supreme Court

The ballot was short and sweet, featuring only three candidates vying for a seat on the State Supreme Court, and so was the turnout Tuesday for primary election day. Kim Chavie, election clerk with the city, said turnout was expected to be light, and the final numbers supported that, with 15.67 percent of voters coming out to cast their ballots on Tuesday.  The votes tallied Tuesday night in Muskego posted the following results: Pat Roggensack - 2,315 (85%) Ed Fallone - 284 (10%) Vincent Megna - 111 (4%) The result mirrored the statewide outcome, as Roggensack and Fallone advanced to the April general election - read more about the statewide results here. In April, there will only be one additional contested race, that for the 2nd District…

Who Should Sign Off on Muskego's Big Purchases?

Some council members wanted more oversight of expenses, but others saw the move as micromanaging and less efficient. The Committee of the Whole voted against making any changes to the city policy.

The city's purchasing policy will remain as it has been, but not after some debate on how much can be spent before the Common Council has to review it. The discussion occurred Tuesday night at the Committee of the Whole meeting.  Generally expenses that were included in the council's approved budget do not need another look, unless they exceed the expected amount. Department heads can approve expenses up to $25,000, with the Mayor's approval also needed for those higher than that. However, Alderman Dan Soltysiak challenged the policy stating that the Common Council was charged with the oversight of finances, not the mayor, and said they should be the ones signing off on expenses over $25,000. "This would provide another layer of checks and…

Less Government

8:33 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2013

I think technically a common council as well as the mayor are charged with oversight of finances. In our system of government a council approves the budget and the mayor has day to day oversight of the operations of the city government. This sounds like a power grab by some members of the council.   more ›

Scouts Record Speeds of 230 mph on Steel Track

The Pinewood Derby returned to Muskego Elementary and Boy Scout Pack 19, but if you haven't witnessed it lately, the competition has gone high-tech.

While the idea behind the Pinewood Derby hasn't changed, the tools used to measure the races certainly has. The Boy Scouts of Pack 19 in Muskego assembled Saturday afternoon at Muskego Elementary School to engage in competition, with about two dozen entries made by the scouts, with a little help from their parents. The Scout is given a block of wood made of pine, four plastic wheels and four nails. The finished car must use all nine pieces, must not exceed a  five ounces, must not exceed a certain length and must fit on the track used by the pack. Blocks can be whittled with a hand knife or a bandsaw or Dremel carving tool for major shaping. Decals can also applied to replicate actual racing cars. That much hasn't changed since the event …

Hi Denise, Thanks for stopping out at this year's Pack 19 Pinewood Derby. We had 28 Cub Scouts Racing this year and more than a few photo finishes. In the end last year's Champ Matt Ciepluch made it a repeat after dominating the day's racing. Our Webelos II Scouts from Den 1 also dominated with 3 of the top 5 finishes but a whole new class of racers emerged with 4 of our Tigers (first year Cub …   more ›

Aldermanic Elections May Go Uncontested

With one open seat on the Common Council yet to have an official candidate and the other three featuring just one candidate, it may be an anti-climactic election.

It's possibly not a surprise that after last year's controversy over the lake park purchase, it's tough to find candidates to run for Muskego's Common Council. As the Jan. 2 deadline looms to have papers filed by hopeful candidates to make it on the ballot, District 4, 6 and 7 have one candidate listed; District 2 remains unclaimed by anyone. Rob Glazier will run for his first full term in the 4th District, as will Eileen Madden in the 7th District. Both had come onto the council as a result of the resignations of Keith Werner and Noah Fiedler, respectively. Person of the Year: Runners Up Illustrate Service

The list of candidates was impressive and showed a lot of thought on your part. Amazingly, these are the runners up, all of them deserving in their own right for their heart and dedication to what they do.

There weren't a ton of responses to our call for who your Person of the Year would be, but the names that came in are all so deserving. Thanks to those who took a moment to name their candidates. I also want to thank the sweet reader who wanted to nominate me. However, while what I do is certainly more than a job to me, it pales in comparison to the following list: Rob Glazier - "Rob has served on the Community Development Authority for the past 10 years and is the current Chairman of that organization. He has been a very active leader in the Boy Scouts, various school district panels and committees," explained one reader. "You will also catch Rob at various committee and board meetings that he has no obligation to attend." Glazier was …

City May Put Fireworks Ban to a Referendum

Public Safety Committee wrestles with pros and cons of issuing permits for fireworks, and asks the Common Council to discuss putting it on the ballot

It's possible voters in Muskego will get to weigh in on the April ballot on whether personal fireworks should be banned in the city. The Public Works Committee discussed the current procedures and restrictions on the fireworks ordinance, which does allow private residents to set off class C fireworks in a selected three-day period between July 1 and July 7. Muskego is the only city to allow such use, and recently residents opposed to their use have become more vocal, especially with the summer of 2012 being so dry. The issue was moot as Muskego posted a ban on fireworks as well as burning because of the extreme drought.  The committee itself was conflicted, with Alderman Rob Glazier siding with making improvements to safety requirements in…

I hope the opportunity to continue to buy a permit is allowed. I think its a great thing, and wish I had the yard to safely take advantage of it. Sadly this is one of those things that the minority usually wins out on cause they scream the loudest. We do a huge display every year at a friend's house in Waukesha that the entire neighborhood looks forward to every year. Well everyone but 1 house a …   more ›

Rob Glazier Says He'll Run in 2013; Kevin Bubacki Posts Interest for 6th District

There are only three weeks for candidates to submit paperwork to run for alderman. With 4 seats open in 2013, a couple more names have come up.

Two more names, one officially, have been added to the spring election for 2013. Alderman Rob Glazier currently is the District 4 alderman, having been appointed after Keith Werner's resignation this past spring. He told Muskego Patch that he intends to run in 2013.  In addition, Kevin Kubacki, who is a loan officer with Pyramax Bank, has officially filed paperwork to run in the 6th District. Neome Schaumberg had announced in November she would not run again in 2013. Muskego will have their primary on Feb. 19 if enough candidates emerge for the four district seats on the Common Council, which means at least three candidates per district. Other districts: District 2 will need a new alderman as Kert Harenda was redistricted out, but rules …

Spring Elections: Schaumberg not Running, Madden Hopes to Return

Neome Schaumberg has been a part of the plan commission and Common Council for 16 years, but says she's retiring as 6th District Alderman; Eileen Madden says she'll run in 7th District.

After a brief break from elections, it's time to start thinking about 2013. Muskego will have their primary on Feb. 19 if enough candidates emerge for the four district seats on the Common Council, which means at least three candidates per district. District 2 will need a new alderman as Kert Harenda was redistricted out, but rules allowed him to finish his term. Rob Glazier currently is the District 4 alderman, having been appointed after Keith Werner's resignation this past spring. Glazier has not indicated yet if he will decide to throw his hat in the ring for the 2013 - 15 term. Neome Schaumberg, who has been the District 6 Alderman since 2009, told Muskego Patch that she was going to retire at the end of her term in April, leaving the…

Senior Taxi Funding OK'd for 2013, but Jammin' Faces Cuts

Aldermen say the popular senior program has merit, but the summer street festival can do with less funding

The Muskego Senior Taxi will continue to receive funding from the city in 2013 at the same level it has in past years, but Jammin' on Janesville will likely face a cut. Meetings at the Committee of the Whole Tuesday, aldermen asked questions of representatives from the taxi service, which provides low-cost rides for Muskego seniors, to determine if they would continue to approve a $5,000 request for funding in 2013. The organization started about six years ago and has received city funds every year since. At issue was not whether the program was a benefit to the city, but rather how the city should categorize funding for this and other community organizations and services. "There are a lot of other organizations that would appreciate the …

Gregory, great thought, but not that is not the purpose of the Jammin events. The purpose was and continues this year to be: to make guests and our community aware of businesses on the Janesville Rd. corridor. This was part of a toolkit to help businesses survive during a very difficult time of road construction. We can go to the community festival for what you are describing. We do not want to …   more ›
