Progress at the site of the former dealership includes the removal of signs, name of Salentine Buick.
During a sunny Saturday, a lone crane operator was at work at the corner of Janesville Road and Tess Corners Drive, making short work of removing another familiar sign at Salentine Buick. The dealership closed in February after the economics of selling a single-brand caught up to it. Owners said they knew that an upcoming remodel, required by GM, would have further placed them in debt and they decided to close. There is interest in the property according to the family, but there has not been a sale as of yet. The Salentine name has been synonymous with cars in Muskego since 1923, and the family has been actively involved in serving the community, something that family members Sue and Carey Sorensen said will not change.

Despite a supportive community, the economics of the car market weren't working in Salentine's favor, as the nearly 90-year-old business closed last week.
For the most part, reaction to the closing of Salentine Buick was as united as it was when Salentine stood to lose its GM franchise about three years ago. Then, community members wrote GM and petitioned Congress to save the dealership. The result was successful, but the economics of the car market couldn't be overlooked. Namely, that bigger is better and having a variety in brand makes a dealership diverse and more able to handle downturns in the economy. Salentine sold only the Buick line after GM discontinued the Pontiac brand, which is a model that's a thing of the past, according to Jim Tolkan, president of the Automobile Dealers Association of Mega Milwaukee. "The single point store in a metro area where there are multiple …

A look back at what made news takes us out to sea, under the ice, and saying farewell to a longtime family business
Homeowner Jim Mortle has been working out a dispute with his neighbors and the Parks Department for four months, and after all the discussion it appears split-rail fences will end up resolving the issue of property lines near lake access #12. Muskego Police have hopefully resolved their own investigation of the theft of stolen license plates at Frey Auto, which were found on a West Allis man's care and also led to an arrest for theft and bail jumping. A house that had been in the news last spring as its contents - and there were a lot of them - were sold in a four-day estate sale was now burned to make way for a new home. Also returning to the news was the discussion of a dog park in Muskego, and resurfacing in more ways than one, crews …

Photo galleries tell a story of music, water, sun - all the ingredients for a great summer!
If a picture paints a thousand words, what would summer's story be? Muskego is a small town by many standards, but when it comes to getting out and having a great time, we live large. While some bemoan the unofficial last weekend of the Summer (technically, it holds on until September 23), the great times in pictures should serve to keep the memories long into the fall and winter. All Pontiac car show is a bittersweet journey of the brand that is no more.
Salentine Buick in Muskego sponsored an all-Pontiac car show, with proceeds benefitting the MACC Fund. A great afternoon held to the tune of oldies pumping from the DJ's speakers, viewing dozens of mint condition Bonnevilles, GTOs, Grand Prix, and Trans Ams was both sweet and a bit wistful, as those who love the Pontiac brand wished GM still produced them.
