Ted Kanavas Will Not Run for U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl's Seat

In an email to supporters, Kanavas, a former state senator, said fund raising would be difficult if Tommy Thompson enters the race.

Former State Sen. Ted Kanavas announced today he will not run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Herb Kohl. In an email to supporters, Kanavas said while he has received strong support, competing for campaign funds with other candidates such as former Gov. Tommy G. Thompson would be difficult. "I am extremely appreciative of the support and honest feedback I received from people across the state; I am inspired by their resilience and hard work," Kanavas said. "However, today, I am announcing that I will not be pursing the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. "With four or five candidates in the field and with the tough economic times we face, it would be very difficult to raise the money necessary for me to run a …

Tommy Thompson Puts Off Decision on Senate Run

The former governor tells WisPolitics.com that he'll wait until after this summer's recall elections to decide if he'll run for retiring Sen. Herb Kohl's seat.

Former Gov. Tommy Thompson isn't ruling out a run for the Senate. But he won't decide until after this summer's recall elections, according to WisPolitics.com.  Thompson, a former member of President George W. Bush's cabinet, may run to replace Sen. Herb Kohl, who is retiring.
