Patch asked local librarians and book lovers to recommend some of their favorite books for children. We've collected the answers received in this article for you. Look them up at your local library, or scour the shelves of the bookstore for these gems.

Muskego Patch has teamed up with ReadKiddoRead.com, the website founded by No. 1 best-selling author James Patterson, to bring readers a program to foster reading all summer long.
Just because summer is here doesn't mean its time to close the books — in fact, the warm weather can be the perfect time to get lost in a good story. Patch has teamed up with ReadKiddoRead.com, the website founded by No. 1 best-selling author James Patterson, in a partnership that aims to, "encourage kids' passion for reading and to support parents' efforts to interest their kids in books," according to a press release from the company. The two groups released Patch and James Patterson's/ReadKiddoRead’s Summer Reading List, the first program in the partnership, on all of the more than 850 Patch sites across the country. Muskego Public Library launches its annual summer reading program 'Dream Big: Read', and there's something for everyone in the family, not just kids. Registration begins June 14.
There will be no excuses to be bored this summer, as the Muskego Public Library launches its summer reading - and doing - programs, 'Dream Big: Read!' Along with books, there will be presentations by various groups to occupy your kid's time. They've even thrown in quite a few offerings for teens and adults as well. Registration begins Thursday, June 14 and some programs have a limit, so take advantage of the opportunity soon. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) wants to motivate children 10 and under to take part in the department’s statewide reading challenge. Participants must read 10 books with a transportation-related theme. Once the challenge has been met, with the help of a parent or guardian, participants need to complete the Transportation Reading Challenge form, available on WisDOT’s web site, and submit it to the department’s Office of Public Affairs. All children who read 10 books will receive a small gift for their accomplishment and will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a ride-along with a state trooper.
