Jammin' After Hours: How a Black T-Shirt Can Save You Green

After hours promotion is hoped to keep the party going, while saving festival goers money on area food and beverages.

As the sun sets on the July 6 edition of Jammin' on Janesville, and a long hot holiday week, folks who are just getting started on the weekend can hang out and cash in on savings...if they're wearing the signature black Jammin' tees that have been on sale since the June 1 fest, or the Randy Roadbot mascot pin. Here's the deal: wear a Jammin' on Janesville black tee shirt, on sale at the Muskego Chamber of Commerce office if you don't have one already, and you will be granted discounts at various businesses after the scheduled close of the festival at 9 p.m. Normally, tee shirts cost $10 and pins are $5, but now through July 5, stop in the office with a non-perishable food or monetary donation for the Muskego Food Pantry, the July nonprofit…

Tres Locos Gets the Party Started Early

Believe it or not, Jammin on Janesville is about 5 weeks away; if you have a hankerin' for celebrating outdoors, Tres Locos gets in the spirit of things with 'Slammin on Lannon'

Mary Hinners, owner of Tres Locos in Muskego, said the idea came about because of the ideal placement of a holiday. "Cinco de Mayo is a big deal if you have a Mexican restaurant, and we saw that the holiday falls on a Saturday this year," she said. Then after realizing the rental of a tent and costs for permits aren't any different if Friday were included in the deal, they decided to extend the celebration. Thus, 'Slammin on Lannon' was born. Featuring bands on both Friday and Saturday evening, the festivities will also feature kiddie bounce houses in the lot.  The massive tent will also be heated just in case the holiday weekend feels more like Christmas than the observed Mexican Independence day. "We will serve our menu inside all day …

Common Council Will Hear Opposition to Bike Trail

Tess Corners Drive opponents to recreational trail will have a final opportunity to have it halted Tuesday night.

As dissent over a recreational trail along Tess Corners Drive arose in the past two weeks, the bidding process was halted. Now aldermen on Tuesday will have the opportunity to decide whether the trail is necessary enough to the greater trail system, which has been in development around the city for at least the past five years, or if negative response is enough to pull it from the plans for the roadway. The Common Council will meet at 7 p.m. at City Hall, and will review the recommendation from planning, which urges the city to continue with the trail as planned. However, it's likely a public input session prior to that will feature opinions from residents asking to kill the trail. Other agenda items include:

Readers' Choice: Tres Locos An Easy Winner in Margarita Poll

Sure they are just the place you'd expect to find a margarita, but there are plenty of mixologists in town that can make tequila and lime juice sing; here's how voting shook out.

Our latest Readers' Choice poll for the best margarita in town resulted in a landslide victory for Tres Locos, a Mexican/South American restaurant located in Muskego's downtown. Posting an impressive 76 percent of the vote, they came in 65 votes ahead of their closest competition, Sauced. Coming in third was Matty's with 4 votes. It wasn't our most hotly contested poll - we'll blame politics for the distraction - but after all the debate this week, it's perhaps a good idea to try all the suggestions on the list, and enjoy the weekend!

Muskego Chamber Pleased at Response to Jammin on Janesville

Planning for its second year, Jammin organizers are seeing an enthusiastic response to the summer event.

It would have been a fair assessment to say that last year, the concept of a festival held along Janesville Road was a tough sell for some businesses. The road, which is poised for a major reconstruction, is not necessarily the prettiest thing Muskego has going for it. However, that was the point of staging events to draw crowds - and customers - to meet the businesses that would be impacted by road construction, and the success of 2011's events has led to a heightened interest in this year's planning. "Muskego businesses are putting the pedal to the medal for Jammin’ on Janesville.  As Muskego Chamber of Commerce’s largest event of the year, businesses are hopping on the marketing bandwagon to promote themselves while creating a lively …
