Outscoring Waupaca, 42-7, the Crusaders earned their very first WIAA Division 3 state title.
Catholic Memorial won its first-ever WIAA state championship thanks to a stout defense that forced five turnovers and a big-play offense that carried the Crusaders (11-2) to a 42-7 win over Waupaca in the Division 3 championship game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Friday. The win gave Crusaders coach Bill Young his first WIAA title after the 35-year head coach won four WISAA private school titles, the last coming in 1996. “It’s huge. To finally get a gold ball, it’s just something special,” said Young, whose team lost in the WIAA final in 2001 and 2010. “It’s an incredible group of kids and it’s just great for Catholic Memorial.” University of Wisconsin recruit Matt Hubley rushed for 199 yards and two scores for the Crusaders, a …

With just one week remaining in the regular season, almost every high school football team in the Milwaukee Patch area knows its postseason fate. Almost every team. Muskego is among a handful of teams whose destiny rests in their contest this coming Friday. They join Racine Horlick, Greendale, Martin Luther and Brookfield Academy, all of which can lock up playoff berths with victories Friday, but losses would either eliminate them from contention or significantly hurt their chances. A win for Muskego against Waukesha South would clinch a playoff berth in their first season in the Classic 8 conference. In the third edition of Patch’s Postseason Possibilities, we take another look at each high school team in the Milwaukee Patch area and …

A judge filed a temporary injunction preventing the WIAA from releasing its Division 1 and 2 football brackets while the fate of co-op Shorewood/Messmer is decided.
UPDATE: According to Wissports.net, the WIAA has ruled that Shorewood/Messmer is eligible for the WIAA playoffs. Greenfield and several other Patch-area high school football teams are still in the dark when it comes to the WIAA postseason as they await a judge's ruling in regards to the eligibility of the Shorewood/Messmer co-op. The teams were supposed to find out Saturday, the day the WIAA was to announce its postseason pairings for all seven divisions. But on Friday, a judge granted Shorewood/Messmer a temporary injunction against the WIAA, keeping them from releasing the Division 1 and 2 brackets until the co-op's fate is decided. On Monday, a judge allowed the release of Divisions 3-7, but several Patch teams have qualified for either…
