Waukesha County Fair Attendance Up From 2011

This year, 4,000 more visitors attended the Waukesha County Fair as compared to 2011. Just how many people attended the fair?

Despite a stormy opening night at the Waukesha County Fair, the weather cooperated for the rest of the five-day event and organizers reported that attendance was strong. From July 18 -22 just over 125,000 fairgoers attended the 170th installment of the event. Attendance on Friday was the highest it had been since 2007, and Saturday’s attendance was the second highest total since 2006. The number of visitors in 2012 eclipsed 2011 totals by roughly 4,000 fairgoers. “The weather cooperated for us this year and we are extremely pleased with the high attendance we saw. The hard work of our Board Members and volunteers really paid off this year and we had a great Fair,” Executive Director Shari Black said in a news release Thursday. Whether it …

Weaving Magic: Woman's Passion for Basket-Making Tops Contest

From photography and woodcarving to knitting and crocheting, senior citizens entered their work in a contest at the Waukesha County Fair. Grand champion winner Geri Coen describes her passion in this story with photos of winners.

With five years practice weaving baskets, Geri Coen entered one of her designs in a Waukesha County Fair contest not for glory but constructive criticism. "I didn't care about the blue ribbon," said Coen of Waukesha. "I justed wanted the judges to tell me how I could improve and make it better." Apparently she can't. Coen won not only a blue ribbon, but a champion ribbon in the Senior Citizen contest's home furnishing category. And then her basket won the grand champion ribbon, the top award over all eight categories in the exhibit: cultural arts, photography, crafts, woodworking, knitting, crocheting, sewing and home furnishing. U.S. Senate candidate Tommy G. Thompson stopped by the Waukesha County Fair Friday, at which the band Foreigner played and there were contests for bubble blowing and longest hair. Brooke Myers, 6, and Elijah Schneider, 7, both of Waukesha, won biggest bubbles; and Lily Rodriguez napped the prizes for longest hair — 24 inches from the tip to the bottom of her pony tail. Muskego Girl Makes the Finals for Waukesha County Fair Top Singer

Alyssa Voit will compete on Wednesday, July 18 at 7:30 for the chance to sing on a major stage.

Alyssa Voit of Muskego remains as one of the hopefuls to become the Waukesha County Fair Top Singer, as garner the top prize of $250 and the chance to perform on a big stage at the fair. Voit had been competing against eight other contestants, and will advance to The finalists include: Alyssa Voit, Muskego Krystal Cooke, Burlington Becca Richter, Waukesha Jenna Lynne Scheiwer, Waukesha Lyssa Yehle, Nashotah Voit participated in Muskego Idol last year and tied for 1st, but lost the tie breaker. Her mom Roxanne said her decision to try for the County Fair's contest was pretty simple. Donate Blood, Get Free Waukesha County Fair Tickets

Blood Center of Wisconsin and American Red Cross send out pleas to area residents to help with blood donations this summer.

Are you a fan of Culver’s food or are you looking for free tickets to the Waukesha County Fair? Maybe you just want to help out the community by donating blood, but you could score free stuff with a blood donation. Both the Blood Center of Wisconsin and the American Red Cross are pushing for area residents to donate blood this summer. They are each giving away free stuff for blood.  “Every day, the Red Cross must collect more than 17,000 pints of blood for patients at more than 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. Waukesha County Fair Announces Best in Fair Vendors

Awards were given out during the 169th annual fair.

The Waukesha County Fair Association announced Tuesday the winners of its annual “Best of Show” competition held during the 169th Waukesha County Fair, sponsored by Aurora Health Care. Commercial vendors were judged in three categories: Best Outside Vendor, Best Arena Vendor and Best Food Vendor. Each was rated on booth appearance (inside and outside), cleanliness, professionalism and creativity. Judging took place throughout the Fair anonymously; winners were awarded certificates and ribbons on the last day of the Fair. This information was provided to Patch by the Waukesha County Fair.

Waukesha County Fair Releases Attendance Figures

More than 100,000 people attended the 169th annual fair last week.

The Waukesha County Fair, which concluded Sunday with a concert by The Beach Boys, had 121,441 visitors during the five-day fair, according to a news release from the county fair. Daytime attendance was low because of the extreme heat, according to the release, but evening numbers were higher. Thursday’s attendance was the highest Thursday attendance in 16 years, according to the release. “We are thrilled with this year’s attendance numbers,” said Shari Black, executive director, in the release. “Our Board of Directors and the many volunteers worked so hard throughout the year to develop an event that provides a great mix of family entertainment at an affordable price.” The fair was sponsored by Aurora Health Care.
