UPDATE: Park Arthur Ribbon Cutting Moved to May 14

Acquired in 1996, Park Arthur hasn't been ready for prime time until this season, and officials are excited to officially open the park during a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, May 14, postponed from May 7 because of rain

Editor's Note: this article was updated to reflect the new ribbon cutting date on May 14. There have been sneak peaks of portions of Park Arthur, which is situated on Muskego's north side between Martin Road and College Avenue, including an archery range and sledding hill. However, the big draw is expected to be the park's largest feature, the regulation-sized baseball diamond. Muskego Parks and Recreation has been collaborating with groups like Muskego Youth Baseball to construct the field, which includes 90-foot base paths, outfield fencing and (this year) lights. It will be only the second such field in the city, and is expected to alleviate the demand at Horn Field for league tournaments. The opening of the field, and for that matter …

Summer Event Promises to be as Easy as a Walk in the Parks

Women's Business Connections partners with the parks department to get families out and active to discover all of Muskego's parks.

Along with the coming edition of the Muskego Parks and Recreation Department Activity Guide will be an opportunity to play a little BINGO while you're discovering all of Muskego's parks. Women's Business Connections (WBC), a newly formed group that is a part of the Muskego Chamber of Commerce, has developed a partnership with the parks department to take "A Walk in the Parks." The seven-week long event will encourage residents to visit all of Muskego's 14 parks as well as Engel Conservation Area and Muskego County Park. "We found that many people who live in Muskego don't know where many of its parks are, and we thought this would be a great way to introduce families to them by holding weekly events and making a game of it," explained Gail…

Women in Business Get Special Attention

With the top jobs in Muskego occupied by women, it only seems natural that groups are forming with a focus on women in business.

Two new groups have organized that will launch their first meetings this week, with each putting the spotlight on women. Fitting for Muskego, as the mayor's, school superintendent's and Muskego Chamber of Commerce's office chairs are occupied by women. Matty's will be the location of a Monday Night Ladies League starting Jan. 21. at 7 p.m. While not too buttoned up, it's networking nonetheless, and the goal is to offer events targeting women's interests. Dr. Janice Jurack, owner and president of Muskego Health and Wellness will be advising speaking to attendees on the 'Three Pillars for Health in the New Year.' Wine tasting and Legacy Salon will be there as well, with paraffin  A more formal option is Women's Business Connections (WBC), …

New Group Forming to 'Grow Women'

Women's Business Connections forms out of Muskego Chamber of Commerce, with the goal of helping area women develop professionally and personally

It stands to reason that with the top three areas in the city - government, schools and business - being represented by women, why not organize a group to help all women in Muskego develop their business, and their future? "We want to provide a place for women to come and network, learn from each other about their areas of expertise, grow their business, and in short grow women" said Beth Schmidt, one of the group's co-founders. An initial brainstorming session was held Wednesday at the Muskego Public Library, with a healthy turnout of about two dozen. Along with Schmidt, attorney Debra Skurulsky of Muskego Legal, and Gail Levin, owners of Curves are the group's founders. The organization is a wing of the Chamber of Commerce, and women …

It's a shame that this group doesn't allow non chamber members to be part of it. There are quite a few local business owners who have a lot to offer this group that are not members.   more ›
