The days of claiming the alternative minimum tax credit, historic rehabilitation tax credit and the working family tax credit may be over as State Assembly Republicans look at possibly cutting them.
If you were among the 790 families that claimed the working family tax credit or the 418 who claimed the historic rehabilitation tax credit, the 2012 tax year may be your last to do so. State Assembly Republicans are talking about nixing 50 tax credit programs -- including the alternative minimum tax, working family tax credit and historic rehabilitation tax credit -- that don't get used much by Wisconsin income taxpayers. The manufacturer's tax credit would remain untouched. If a proposal passes into law, the legislation would ultimately lower the tax rate, according to a story by the Journal Sentinel. Rep. Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will appear at same religious-based event to woo county's conservative voters.
Three Republican presidential candidates are confirmed to appear at a Wisconsin primary kickoff event at the Country Springs Hotel in Waukesha on Saturday. Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will attend the event sponsored by the Faith and Freedom Coalition that is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. Ron Paul has also been invited to the event, along with Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Ron Johnson, Rep. Paul Ryan, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner and others. Details on the event are still being worked out, according to organizers, and it's unknown whether the three presidential candidates will appear on the same stage together or make separate speeches. One of our local legislators is co-sponsoring a repeal of the state's law that requires restaurants serve butter—not margarine—unless a customer requests it.
A Racine legislator is part of the charge to repeal the state's remaining butter law. The law requires restaurants to offer patrons butter—not margarine—with their meals, unless the patron specifically requests margarine. Violating the statute comes with a possible penalty of a fine between $100 and $500 and/or spending up to three months in jail. Do it again, and the fine climbs to $500-$1,000 and imprisonment time grows to six months to one year. State Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, and Rep. Dale Kooyenga, R-Brookfield, introduced the law to repeal the law. Kooyenga told the Journal-Sentinel the existing law is "silly, antiquated and anti-free market."
