Salentine Says Goodnight and Farewell

The family and the business, which were one and the same in Muskego, were honored Thursday night by the Chamber of Commerce.

Salentine Buick and the Salentine family were described as "iconic" for the city of Muskego, having first opened its doors in 1923.Β

However, the market eventually caught up with the single-brand dealership at the corner of Tess Corners Drive and Janesville Road, and its doors were closed in February.

The public outpouring of support was evident as owners Sue Salentine Sorensen and her daughter Carey Sorensen came forward during the Muskego Chamber of Commerce's Gala to accept an honorary membership Thursday night. To a standing ovation, the family was recognized not only for its fortitude to stay in business through depressions, wars and the loss of Pontiac, but also for its constant service to the community.

Salentine is a name also synonymous with the Tess Corners Fire Department, and many current members still don turn out gear when called, likely walking past photos of former chief EJ Salentine when arriving at the station.

Sue Sorensen thanked the chamber and the community for its support and said although they made the tough decision to close, there was nothing to be ashamed of. She told Muskego Patch that the building will be sold and that there has already been interest in it.

For now, she said they are making no plans or announcements outside of continuing to be involved in the community they've called home for 90 years.Β
